On the World Day of the Roma, 8 April at the Media Center in Niš, LEDIB programme representatives signed an agreement with three Roma organizations: Center for the''communication'', ''Roma economic center-Rekoc'' and ''Saste - Healthy Child''. This marked the official realizing of the project "Development of business organization for the Roma population".

This is the first project for the rights of Roma and is a model of how to help the Roma community to improve their business opportunities. In Nis, there is 80% of the Roma population is of working age. As the greatest number of this population engaged in collecting secondary raw materials, LEDIB project representatives shall establish a cooperative and office that will focus on gathering and selling of secondary waste.

According to Osman Balic from the League for the Roma Decade, the signing of an agreement with the adoption of the State strategy for the integration of the Roma is one of the ways that the Roma get out of the vicious circle of poverty in which they are currently.

The conducting of the project "Development of enterpreneurial organization for the Roma population" corresponds to the basic objectives of LEDIB - support for national minorities, development of small and medium-sized enterprises, environmental protection, as well as the increase in the number of employees.

Carsten Lund and Paul Jipsen in the name of LEDIB stressed that the establishment of such office is the first step in improving the economic position of Roma in Nis.
