Out of 25.000 Roma living on the territory of Nisava District, only 2.000 are employed, which is why LEDIB Programme is financing, and together with YUROM Centre NGO implementing the “Introducing Entrepreneurship into Roma Community - Organizing Capacity Building” project. According to the assessments, there are not enough skilled construction workers, so 30 Roma would be trained for these jobs. Moreover, as there are many families that gather paper, iron, and other materials and that deal with agriculture, they would be trained on how to organize themselves into cooperatives and get better prices for their products.

Within this project, mediators have been trained to work in the field, “door-to-door”, inform Roma on the new jobs and register the unemployed ones.

The project would last till October 2010, during which period about 200 Roma should be registered at National Employment Agency, and 100 should be offered jobs.

The aim of the project is to reduce poverty and empower Roma people through possibilities of finding jobs and economic development. It will be implemented together with National Employment Service, SMEs Agency and Ministry of Economy and Regional Development of the Republic of Serbia.
